Fairyland

Endless morning, endless sky
And endless sunshine walking,
Arabesques of bare and colored rock
And the scent of quiet trees.
Strange loveliness…and all for me!

What land is this?
This hemisphere of wonder,
With its blue unclouded dome,
Its golden light, unbreached perfection
Of a world fashioned solely for delight?

And I the only thing not turned to stone!
The only traveler in all this fairyland,
Where even flowing time stands still
As any silent stone that marks my passing.
For here there is no time, if time is motion,

Only the rhythm of unhurried footsteps
And the ceaseless long slow circling of the sun.
Life went on before and will go on again.
But in between’s this time of quiet rapture,
Unmeasured as the world marks time,

Untouched by waiting for the future to begin
Or the present to depart, only undistracted being.
Neither dreams nor visions, but a full reality,
Untroubled, an enchanted world,
Endless morn in fairyland.
