Everything But Love

He gave her gems and diamonds. He gave her works of art.
Of all the things he gave her he never gave his heart

He gave her songs and sonnets. He gave her poems of rhyme.
Of all the things he gave her he never gave his time.

He gave her milk and honey. He gave her beans of curd.
Of all the things he gave her he never gave his word.

He gave her trees and gardens. He gave her buds of Spring.
Of all the things he gave her he never gave his ring.

He gave her lines and cliches. He gave her loads of lust.
Of all the things he gave her he never gave his trust.

He gave her sands and seashores. He gave her plots of land.
Of all the things he gave her he never gave his hand.

He gave her kicks and pleasures. He gave her tears of joy.
Of all the things he gave her he never gave his ploy.

He gave her wrens and peacocks. He gave her pens of dove.
Of all the things he gave her he never gave his love.
