Earthquake of Grey Death

My sobbing tears have wasted and dried up.
my body has grown silent.
As all around me I now only hear
the deafening sound of death...

No longer do I see their smiling faces.
Gone are my beloved ones!
Mother, father, sister, brother all dead!
I am alone; so scared - bereft!

I heard the deafening thunder
of buildings crash all around me.
As screams and sobs rang out for help;
then came the horrible quiet.

As I lay in the rubble of suffocating dust
grey death covered my body.
And in and out of life
and in and out of death my spirit glided.

The sky fell down on top
of unsuspecting children
While thousands were washed
beneath the quaking earth.

And mothers held their little babies
in their arms for one last time.
One did not know that her hold
would be a hug that saved.

Oh can it be that this grey death
has gone and left me to lament?
Or is it destiny that I still live
to have a second chance still spent?
