Early Morns

6:55 and I'm not asleep
I'm a night owl,
It can't be helped.
And as I look out the window at the new morn
The street lamps still on
And fog set in
With the sun rise not quite there
It gives off
A welcome sight.
I wonder why I can still smile
When I'm so tired
And my eyes are sagging
Like purple potato sacks.
I'm so tired but I prefer to be awake.
Is it strange if I sleep all day
And hate sleeping at night?
I think I'm destined
To be nocturnal.
I stare at the sight
That fills the air so light
And I wish to jump up and run outside
But my parents would get really peeved.
Pink in the sky
Orange 'round street lamps
All mixed together with
The soupy fog.
Birds start to sing and I recognize
Them from the spring.
At times like this I just wanna smile
'Cause it all seems to perfect to
Even be real.
