Driving on Empty

My eyes, like the rivers we drove by
My heart, like the empty fields we admired
The laughter that echoes in my head--
Is it humor?
Hello, sorrow
Goodbye, my love
I drove away as quickly as possible
Trying to outrun the imminent
But I carried it with me
As if the weight of the world were
On my shoulders
I have never wanted someone or something
So badly that I willingly endure the pain
A pain that is so inflicted
I am so in love, yet so empty
There is nothing to comfort me
Only the night air, an open window, and . . .
I am so in love
