Douglas Avenue

All alone on Douglas Avenue
he's a torn and weathered scene
his back against the winter wind
as it howls its mighty scream
He's an episode of lonelyness
that was witnessed long ago
On booze and drugsand on parole
Now on Douglas growing old

His broken dreams and whiskey bottles
They're all swept from view
He's empty and forgotten on Douglas Avenue

A place of stone and concrete
That has worn out many shoes
For he now found out what it takes
To pay the devil his dues
As the wind sweeps his soul away from
Douglas Avenue.
