Dog Dreams

My dog is snoring loudly,

I think he must be dreaming,

Of chasing pretty butterflies,

Or kitty's playful scheming!

The sound of his inhaling,

Sounds like the rushing tide,

That hurries in to meet the shore,

Then with the rocks-collides!

He has no conscious knowledge,

His thoughts have left this plane,

For higher, lofty visions,

Away from bowl and chain.

I think he must be happy now,

Away from life's delusion,

A ball to chase~Utopia!

Oh eager, playful vision.

Forbid, I dare not wake him up,

But leave him to his snoring,

For dog years are so very short,

And dreams are meant for soaring!
