Divided Loyalties

Be true to yourself, I was always told;
bow to no one, stay strong and bold
And so said I, "Oh yeah, that's me"
"Free just to be" was my motto, you see
But with the passing of years and transitions of time,
life lessons learned and the high mountain climbed
When you get to the top and look over its peak,
to whom you stayed faithful is the voice that will speak
