Deep, Dark Water

Miles beneath the ocean live unGodly
species of the aqua extaordinary.
They live and breathe in a space not
meant for man to exist.

As you descend the leagues
the pressure exponentially increases.
Unprotected, our heads implode and
our blood refuses to run its course.

It is a resting ground for underwater
graves constructed by tragedy.
It is a terror-deep the likes of which
light itself is afraid.

At times I feel drawn to its black magic
but only with cautious curiosity.
In the deep, dark water, God has roped off
a space for us to leave be.

The only time I spend there is in the
worst of dreams, hoping to buoy.
In the best of dreams, I ascend
to the air in awakened baptism.
