Decisions
Hidden in the brush,
swallowed in the water’s sound,
and old bridge stands strong.
Across the way,
I can’t turn back,
for that way
is broken and black.
How could a short jaunt
mean so very much?
It means leaving you far behind,
lost inside the dust.
Maybe I need this
as surely as a desert plant
needs water,
Maybe this time is right.
Let go so I may walk,
watch me as I go,
looking back only once
in my nervous, anxious venture.
