Death Race

Time
Such a delicate virtue,
but in the human mind,
minor, practically nothing

In life, only two checkpoints,
life and death

One race
Trillions of competitors
start at the starting line,
throughout this competion called life,
the drivers decide their own courses
every action, every turn,
either slows them down or brings them closer,
to death at the finish line

Disease, illness, serious injury,
committing crimes, minor or felony,
paying the price with their souls
Drinking, smoking, partying,
next party leading to the great beyond

Having sex, rough and dirty,
paying the consequence with an STD
or even worse, HIV

Becoming a star,
cracked under pressure of fame
failed loves, maimed body, coke overdose,
deep sleep in hospital, comatose,
stretched limo turned to a hearse

Soldiers out fighting pointless war,
come back home in one piece,
or completely broken

The race of time,
everyone's racing to the finish
the prize for coming in 1st place,
eternal life, salvation,
or eternal damnation
