Dark

Darkness enters slowly
Creeping across the streets and sidewalks
Normally filled with the busy life of daytime
Going where no street lights glow
Shadowed yards in silence
Waiting for the next day to arrive
To be touched by the fingers of the sun
As they end the darkest of nights once again

Children running and playing the nightly games
Capture the flag again tonight
Where darkened surfaces all full of activity
The secret steps to try to win
The games that we all play as children in the dark
Another day to soon arrive

From the darkest of nights
To the brightest of days
Everything still occurs
Surfaces either darkened or well lit
Still there to be seen
Darkness arrives often in silence
Shadowed steps slowly to be
Another part of the reality
Of which we call night and day
