Dangerous To Dream

Laying under a veil of stars,
twinkling lights confetti night.
Appearing so familiar,
they're a beautiful sight.

I take the time to write this,
for your memory haunts me.
And I miss you so much, just
thinking how things use to be.

It's said God favors desert lands,
and that gives my heart a thrill.
Funny philosophizing
about God, when sent to kill.

Got some letters from strangers,
saying they are real proud of me.
I can't describe how that feels,
it's what it means to be free.

I wish I could hold you tight,
and every night my heart pines.
Yet it's dangerous to dream,
while dodging bullets and mines.

Watching shooting stars zip by,
I make a wish to go home.
But while in Afghanistan,
it's unsafe to let thoughts roam.

Many of my poems reflect the uniqueness and special circumstances of my upbringing. more…
