colorful innard

poem for samiya

 in a cuban diner
samiya sat with a plate of beans
and heard a story of a king
who was a lover of a poetess.
the king now without his kingdom

 chocolate and sex without love
 and poetry without poet.  1996
i want to go home ' wailed samiya!'
i want to return to what hunger has faked!

 we were already enemies, yes!
one for sky, one for water..."wailled
the cameleers":  and  displayed their colorful innard
 an offering for samiya...

 after.
the cameleers' disappeared into their bodies.
and rested on the orphan ship.  and samiya?
 nothing's left
 but mortgage trees
and the change of tongue.  1996
 everything is still for samiya...
