Chillicothe Dirt

When you see the water tower you're there.
The red dirt road rolls out like a carpet
to meet you.
One stop light so you'll know of its existence
and the population sign
is not to be trusted.
The dirt wants you to linger
so it can escape.
It wants to hitch a ride to hopefulness.
When it rains, it traps the body in the
mud, but the spirit wanders free.
I was born here, loved here, and I
cherish Chillicothe.
