Chicago Ice

Chicago ice nights
On the Loop,
Peering into windows
Of great steaks and chops,

Smelling glorious
Bread and butter
Melting in the snow drifts,

Tasting the frostbitten salads
Of the South Side
And warming in the glow
Of a Greyhound's exhaust,

Frozen stars crackling
In December wind,
snowflakes covering
the very moon,
I head West.
