Cat and Mouse

Silence slips softly in
encountering prey.
She encircles white throats,
spreading her fingers,
intending nothing.
Moving mindless, her languid
motions invade the void.
Only the cat, black with mysteries,
sees her fingers weave the air.
His green eyes widen and blacken,
tail flicking dark quickness,
prepared to pounce upon shadows
or upon this silence leaking out into
corners from some small hole
of this suspended, ballooning night.
