Blue Mesa

here stands a silent blue mesa
and here in the wind stand I
silent and alone except for
sun and sky and space and stone
communing with not only one
blue mesa but a quality of mind
of which its ancient azure
represents but one expression

a deep serenity
not just of stone or sky
a quiet smiling anthem
that resonates within the spirit
across an endless spaciousness
throughout the mesas of the mind
the song of both a quest and its fulfillment
a greater joy than any place or moment

not that which comes and goes
at the whim of circumstance
but that which sleeps within the soul
and only needs the gentle touch
of solitude and silence to awaken
whether it comes from mind or mesa
whether the soul begins the anthem on its own
or takes its cue from sun and sky and space and stone
