Blood Diamond

Guilty tears leave these cheeks dry,
As I read your letter asking why.
I can only wonder at your surprise.
True, I can admire a perfect sunrise,
Yet slice at the thin shreds of your breath,
But you know how innocence can regress.
A vegetarian was once the King of Death,
And Satan himself was an angel-no less.
Sweet words circle the purple along your neck.
Will it truly help you heal to hear me confess?
Fine, my precious Tanzanite,
Purchased at a bargain price,
From a desperate child fleeing the fight.
A few choice cuts to your core,
May make you sell for far more.
To you I guess I must then confess,
That perhaps on occasion I did transgress,
Passing my soul to the side of the night,
But my love still glows shiny and bright,
Like a blood diamond in broken hands might.
It is not your choice to complain
Of your hurt, hate, shame, or pain,
When it is you who is to blame,
Because you put your trust
In a man of greed and lust,
Confusing a demon with a saint.
Don't we all look the same?

(Author's Note: Tanzanite is a lovely purple rock found only in Tanzania, in central Africa. As you might find in ads, but not in the news, the rock is selling fast and is very precious. If you buy it, you are literally taking advantage of refugees that would sell that rock for anything just to get out of that country, during a time of war. Not a good symbol of your marriage.)
