Blood Bought

Me and mine are one and five
We scrimped and saved, we had to survive
I climbed the corporate ladder
While to them, school was the matter
Missing their tender, young years
They not knowing of my many fears
As the years went, time did fly
And on occasions they asked why
We must progress to better our life
Part-time parenting can cause strife
Goals were set, we had to succeed
Each looking to me, they believed
On top we were, time to celebrate
Half of them grown, full of debate
The knock at the door was early morn
No more were five, but only four
A puzzle complete now missed a piece
The price so high, where hurt doesn't cease
