Blackout

When the lights went out in two thousand three
fifty million souls worked resourcefully.
When the lights went out people were turned on
like a relay team passing the baton.
When the lights went out many came to see
caring kindnesses like consent decree.
When the lights went out merchants didn't gouge,
but reduced prices for the massive scrouge.
When the lights went out internal power
in those affected blossomed to flower.
When the lights went out city dwellers saw
Big Dipper and Mars, arousing great awe.
When the lights went out a romantic spawn
produced the offspring to soon come along.
When the lights went out candled ambiance
stirred conversation with TV's absence.
When the lights went out people found their feet,
used to ambulate, no longer effete.
When the lights went out the dependency,
observed by all, was electricity.
