Bits of broken glass

As I lie here beneath, dying...
Among these stray pieces
Bits of broken glass
My ending life spilling out
A scene that's forever trapped
In what seems...
Like a black and white photograph

Through lighted prisms...
An offer given
Of a different view
Newer angles now reveal
That, which once was veiled and askew

My beliefs of recent
I surely thought to be
Soulful
And in sincerity

On a nosebleed soapbox...
I made my many judgmental observations
Presumptous at everything
It was all corrupted anyway

This is how I decided...
To let my world turn
The common man
underneath my heel
Was never worthy of concern

Always, a tunnel vision
Peering out...
Through suspicious eyes
The deception...
I played upon myself
Half empty glass perceptions
This is all I ever chose to find

But, soon a punchline
As all jokes must come to end
Because, those I had refused to love
Somehow, still put a claim on me
Wanting to make ammends

And even more ironic...
As eyes the widest ever open
But, this time glazed over, while watching
My family with auroras
Strange and encompassing
Of glows, I presume...
Seen only by the soon to be unliving

My loved ones...
I thought were never needed
Unselfishly gather near
Kneeling and crying...
Upon the shard covered concrete
As I weep crimson tears
All along, they were the innocent victims
Of a villian blinded by wealth and greed

I could not accept it
The fact is...
I needed...
We all need LOVE
And, I became a cold and callous fiend

Through the shattered panes
The fragments of realization
Comes but, way too late
That all along...
What it was
I would not see
The glass before me
Had always been over flowing

And in one last gesture
With a hand so cold
But yet, warm bathed in blood
I leave my final mark
Upon this hardened black
Asphalt earth
A drawn out heart...
The universal symbol of love
A lasting expression of my worth

All thoughts rush free
In the last circling of red
And, my finger falls
As the sound of sirens becomes a silence
Among the now, gone and peaceful dead

Nighttiger

A fortyish native born all American man. Married twice and for the last time. I have four children; Three daughters and one son that are all over the age of eighteen. I also have two grandchildren; one three years old and one nine months old. Inspired by God, tragedy, life's experiences and then a fairy tale love. I never intentionally set out to write poetry, but "She" inspired me. "She" meaning the love of my life. That love is a passion that after thirteen years still grows stronger each and every day. It eventually had to be put into writing. As I wrote poetry to her, she encouraged me to approach other subjects. Doing so brought me to discover that poetry could wash away the bitter tastes of life (suicide, cancer, and divorce) that were still living like demons inside me. So when poetic therapy brought those impish fiends to a stalemate, I began to experiment more. Creating fictional characters and situations within my works. The support of this online community has inspired me even further to continue to hone my writing skills giving the readers the best that I can offer. Thanks to all you out there in Lulu land. more…
