Beautiful View

the white clouds float effortlessly,
slicing through the crystal blue sky.
stepping to the edge of the cliff,
seeing the lake at the bottom of the ravine.
a step closer and the pebbles underfoot slide,
fall to sitting position, knees drawn up, staring.
imagining the trees rustling in the cool breeze,
as the water ripples in slow, methodic circles.
birds fly low, chirping their happy songs,
deer sip water as squirrels playfully run nearby.
clouds linger before the sun,
enough light, not too bright nor too dim.
so peaceful and magnificent, the view.
sitting in wait and wonderment, she stands.
wanting to be beautiful and free, mind wanders.
only rocks befall her now open eyes, she steps back.
shaking her head, she runs forward, leaping.
closing her eyes, wishing, waiting to be a part of the view.
