Baron of Death

The Baron of Death descends,
having awaited the nights arrival,
his wings spread in gleeful anticipation,
grinning with the knowledge of his forthcoming catch,
I feel His shadow above me,
heavy with the weight of collected souls,
for so long I have avoided His vice-like grasp,
though long have I been in His gaze,
weakness clouds my mind,
and suddenly His claw is on my shoulder,
soul torn from lifeless body.
