Autumn's Eve

Sitting on this warm late autumn eve,
Gazing across golden sands
to azure blue seas, hinting of a deep
solitary coolness, across the endless
cobalt horizon. Gulls ride on hidden currents
skimming above the brine, dipping and diving.
Puffs of white cloud like foam,
dance on translucent waves, rolling
almost to my feet, bringing with it
the flotsam and jetsam of others' lost lives;
leftovers cast out and forgotten,
some small treasures now misplaced,
yet still remembered and much loved.
The air grows cold, the receding sounds
of the gulls' incessant squarking ebbs,
I must now leave the approaching gloom
and find my way home, to the warm hearth,
and glow from the fellowship of friends.
