Autumn's Advance

Dew drops sparkle in the sun,
the poor man's diamonds glistening,
as the fleeting rays catch their edge,
I see a spray of rainbow colours,
blue, red, yellow and green.
Summer has turned his back, the days
grow slowly dark, his fierce demeanour
now tempered by autumn's bold haultiness.
Kaleidoscope of shapes, dance up the road,
mirroring my joyful heart.
The wind blows still warm upon my face,
the autumn leaves, gold and brown dance
about my feet, oblivious to my gaze.
Smoke ascends from proud chimney stacks,
now fills my nose with vapoury hints
of sweet cedar, beech and spruce.
Soon the trees will be defrocked,
gnarled skeletons laid bare.
