Autumn Leaves

Colorful flying leaves
They glide through the air on top of the wind.
When the wind stops,
they slowly hit the ground with a silent landing.
Some smell like the depth of the forest,
Others smell like a fresh greeting scent.
They feel rough and crisp against my cold fingers.
Tingling my hand when I crumble them up.
Lazy and free they spend their days on the Earth's floor,
or dangling from high off the branches of a tree.
When spring comes they turn back to their different shades of green.
Then they are no longer,
