He walks around the stone,
studying the texture,
the color and contrast,
picturing the work of art
that lay just below
stiff surface.
With an idea in mind,
he begins to chisel away,
painstakingly taking bits here,
pieces there from the block.
The man is aware of no one;
he has become lost
in the world of creation,
folded away in the art
of pure design
and imagination.
His wife almost understands
his deep desire; she does the same,
picking up her pen
to decorate the blank page
with meaningful letters
and potent words.
What a couple
holding fast to each other’s ideas,
it doesn’t matter the prospect,
it’s their art that holds them together.
