Another Summer Gone

Dee Edgett

Summer is old and wrinkled

Fall nips piercingly at its edges.

The hummingbirds have all departed

To sip sweet nectar elsewhere.

Too soon winter will emerge

Sodden with bone drenching cold.

My porch swing sits abandoned

Waiting silent and forlorn

For next summer’s sweet return.
