An Encomium To A King

With constancy unfailing and passion unswerving,
I have listened and watched you--all through
Your years under the California sun, moon and stars...
Summer, fall, winter and spring.

In the beautiful San Diego,
You were much too big and good "boxed-in"
Or, if you will, "contained in a bottle"
To stay floating in its blue waters.

In L.A., you were a star in your own right,
Even as you made the stars--the heavenly bodies
That they are...more glittering and bedazzling.
Because like a master painter (the tv screen
As your canvas), you rendered 'em (to your
Audience), more "life-like" and--reachable,
Unlike their namesakes in the celestial sky.

You are by nature (don't fight it), avuncular.
And this is your magic, not exclusive of Walter's.

And--hey, Dave was right.
Truly, you are--King of Television.
Hail to you, Regis! Long live the King!
