An E-mail—Re: Taxes

His words were honest, innocent, and simple.
They were only the truth.
I’ve read them over and over.

No harm intended.
Why then, does each word feel
like a stab through my already wounded heart?

We are allowed to file as separated when we have lived apart at least 90 days.
I plan on doing this, just wanted to let you know for when you do yours, if you do.

90 days have passed twice over,
but if I don’t say it out loud
and if I avoid putting it in writing
it seems less like real life,
less like my life,
and more like make believe;
or at least the life of someone else.
