Amherst Independence Daze

If you hear a loud bang
It's just part of the gang
That live down the street
Who thought it would be neat

To light up the sky
Like the Fourth of July
And while it is their right
To light up the night

I just wish they'd remember
It's the end of December
And perhaps maybe
There might be a baby

Trying to sleep
But instead must weep
Or a dog shaking in wonder
At the sound of the thunder

Or a young mom pacing the floor
Who can't take much more
Or an elderly man
That did not plan

On reliving the fight
That gave you the right
To wake us all night
With the flashes of light

So please give it some thought
That the explosives you bought
Might better be saved
For those long summer days.
