Amalgamated (That Means “United”)
We must turn to each other, instead of on each other
in the midst of our turmoil,
and take a moment to be thankful
for all we have to be grateful for.
Sure, the sky bends as though it could turn on us
at any instant, churn and make us wish we didn't
ignore the forecast the evening before,
but the evening news has become somewhat of a bore;
predictably unbearable, expectedly disagreeable;
at the same time wasting time attempting to calculate
the admittedly indeterminable.
Maybe the ground will start shaking,
and maybe our bones will start breaking.
Maybe we can turn this around,
or maybe we've run this town into the ground.
But for now we still have each other,
one another, to put us back together.
It seems sometimes we forget that,
though it's nothing to be ashamed of,
in a world where anything's possible,
and anxiety is what we're made of.
Measured by the breathes we take,
instead of the moves we make;
when the world is crumbling around you,
as it so often seems to do,
instead of recoiling in fright,
why don't you grab a hand or two,
and together,
we can make it through.
