Alexandre Dumas- romantic French novelist

Born in 1802, at Villers-Cotterets, a general's son
Grandson of a negro lady, from San Domingo in the Carribbean
France's finest writer of historical romance
Bringing to the mid-ninteenth century, adventure, passion, chance.
His riveting story of The Three Musketeers
French ladies, young and old, were besotted, pouring out tears
In 1845 he published the marvellous, The Count of Monte Cristo
His stunning rendition of redemption, presented with pure Dumas gusto.

His characters, Edmund Dantes, D'Artagnan and the tortured, Arthos
Immortalized in his tales of injustice and sweet love lost
Thrilling countless readers with The Black Tulip
Murder, scandal, retribution, deceit on every reader's lip.

With Henry III and Antony, he paved a new literary way
Establishing with bravado, the French romantic play
Earning fortune from writing, but carelessly wasting wealth away
Dying in 1870,abject poverty, only his stories survive to this day!
