After The Fall

It was after the fall

He told me about the time everything changed for him

Birds were coming in

Endless it seemed

Each carrying the carcasses of war

The real carnage

The stolen

He

He was standing in the swirl

Couldn't really see much

Summoned

He responded

The bird having fulfilled its mission

Presented him the stretcher

There lay us

Stilled by the conflict

When an arm got loose

And slipped for the poncho liner

Meant for shelter

New fatigues

A young

Boyish

Almost feminine hand

Striking

But the watch

That cursed watch

Loosened by the day's events

But still there

On that boyish crimson wrist

Those other hands

Still moving

While its host lies so still

Unforgettable

Unforgivable

Venor
