Abandoned Ship

it was early morning
i was still asleep
outside it was pouring
and on my bed you sat quietly
with a cigarette in one hand
and a photograph in another
remembering all the times you danced
with me in that unforgettable summer
and tears started sliding down from your face
but you didn't make a sound
you just packed up your suitcase
and left a note saying you were leaving town

it was mid afternoon
i was at a cafe
trying to forget all the wounds
you inflicted on me that day
i was having a cup of coffee
as i reminisced all the things you said
and i honestly thought we'd
be together forever the moment we met
i was thumbing through the pages
of our turbulent relationship
and thinking of all the things that were wasted
when we abandoned ship

it was late at night
i was at a bar
i think you were right
when you said i wouldn't go very far
without you i'm nothing
you don't even have to ask
always dreaming of something
i will never grasp
i was drunk on love
then i was hungover
i think i've had enough
it's time for me to get sober
