A spring morning walk

After spending months in a hospital
 bed.
Wondering whether I would live..
or hear something I would dread.
It felt good to be out walking on a morning such as this
Looking across the creek its waters clearing of the early morning mist
Striding through the rich gosamers festuned o're the dew soaked grass
Listening to a skylark singing as it climbs above the path.
Hearing the clock chiming from the old church belfry
Pleased that life as been kind to me and that I'm once again fit and healthy.
God and the devil shook the dice of life and casually threw the bones.
They wanted me to visit while they sat in judgement on their thrones.
But now my stomach is mended and my aching heart bypassed.
I hope this mortal frame of mine is stong enough to last.
Three score years and ten they say. But who is keeping tally.
A mans as old as he feels and I feel young today as I walk above the river valley
