A Rainbow, in Black and White

When I met you,
My heart skipped a beat.
When I met you,
The world exploded.
When I met you,
I realized, my whole life,
Had always been seen,
Felt,
In black and white.
But when our eyes first locked,
I saw the soft lilac of an evening sky,
And fireworks of gold.
A paint splattered canvas - that was our love.
When your lips first brushed mine,
I saw the gentle green of a forest,
I saw the flickering orange of a candle flame.
When your anger grew,
I saw the vivid red of blood, of lust -
a rose.
I saw the grey of the harsh winter that was you.
And when you left,
When we went our separate ways,
On our paths that remain tangled,
I saw the deepest blue of the ocean;
The loneliest blue in the world.
I saw the darkness of a night without stars.
And in a blinding flash of colors -
The yellow moon that stands alone,
The pulsating purple of a broken heart,
The warmest pink of a love worth loving,
And the blackest feather of the crow -
I saw the colors bleed back out
And I saw your face,
Hidden, in black and white.
Who knew a rainbow
Carried the loves of the world.
And at the end, no pot of gold,
But our story,
Crumpled,
Lay.
