A Little Sprout

It was so small.
It did not look like anything at all.
A little green dot, without doubt.
There, on the ground, a little sprout.

I gave it what I had to give.
So tiny, I did not know if it would live.
My tender care,it knew.
In response, it grew and grew.

It grew for all to see.
It turned into a tree.
The tree was my delight.
Nuturing it felt so right.

In Sring and Summer when the tree was in bloom,
I saw hummingbirds feed from its flowers from my room.
The thick branches and leaves of the tree
Cast welcome shade for me.

It grew over the walkway to my door.
The walkway was not safe any more.
I could not keep my tree around.
I knew I had to cut it down.

It was only a tree,
But cutting it down hurt me.
It was a beautiful friend.
It was my fault its life had to end.
