A Half Full Cup

Slivers of light penetrate your dreams,
in the shallow end of sleep.
And you wade through reality
and the pain that's buried deep.

Like clockwork you reach for him,
half expecting he'll be there.
Yet his pillow's all you find,
though his scent perfumes the air.

You struggle with depression,
winning the will to get up.
And clinging to sanity,
you drink from a half full cup.

Death has brought grief to your door,
yet the tears have mostly dried.
It was not that long ago,
you just stayed in bed and cried.

You cage your raging anger,
although it still barks and nips.
And listen to a song, that
will bring a smile to your lips.

Hope takes root within your heart,
and patiently starts to grow.
Its effects are so gradual,
yet they'll soon begin to show.

Many of my poems reflect the uniqueness and special circumstances of my upbringing. more…
