A crack in the mask.

Darling Im afraid of the dark.
I'm afraid of what lurks beyond the light,
Because Im scared I won't be able to fight.
To fight the sadness,
To fight the anxiety.
The dark is such a terrifying place.
The people around me are no longer the case.
Even though they played a part,
My demons are much worse.
They follow in my shadows,
They sneak up under my bed,
I just can't seem to shake them.
When I close my eyes and count to 10,
I wish they would leave.
I can't scream for help,
No because Im suppose to be strong for the ones around me.
But what happens when I cannot be strong anymore?
What if a crack in my mask reveals my true self?
I don't want to hurt my loved ones,
But do they care if I am?
I sometimes look at the moon and think to myself,
I'm not the only one feeling this way.
I'm not the only one awake from the sweet silence of pain.
But darling I'm afraid of the dark.
