A Broken Song

I can hear a bird singing a broken song
a song that breaks my heart
over and over again
it seems in the game between myself and life
that life will always win
life flaunts its victory in your eyes
reveals your arrogance in your crooked smile
I watch you on the realms of society
on the outside looking in
perhaps if I meet God halfway
he will let me see that life is not a game
but life is what it was meant to be
perhaps the song I hear is broken because
I listen with my heart and paranoia
yet I know of no other way to listen
so if I be painstruck, moonstruck by life
so be it
God inflicts pain on no one but
life can break your heart beyond healing
like a bird singing a never-ending song
