A Beating Spirit
In blood, came the answer,
ranker and with more pain than most,
that, morose, delivered back
my prayer from the world of black.
More than nothing lies hereafter
because a murmur of a solution
braved the dissolution to bring
a right of light to me.
A halting scream comes from far
in my mind as if from a faded dream
of something I can’t remember,
from a once burning ember.
That’s what it must take
to shake me from ignorant slumber
where I’d been cumbersome and lost.
He brought me back, no matter the cost.
