The Tree That Stood

Michael Pickings 1982 (Arkansas)

There is a tree that stood free among the midst of the field and would yield shade during the heat of the summer days for anyone looking for protection from the sun. It withstood floods the rushing waters that slaughters by uprooting the weak and even though times looked bleak, it held its physique. Even during the logging days its unique mystique gave it a magical immunity. With the strong winds of the tornadoes, its roots grabbed the soil deep and held on tight, there was no fight too big and as a kid, I wanted to be like that tree with the ability to withstand all I can, without falling once.
