Consent

Saphira Pasquale 1999 (Cape Town)

Before he touched me
He asked “Did anyone touch you before me?”
The question shook me to my core
I choked on my truth
My tongue knotted
I stopped breathing
In that second I felt dirty
Remembering their hands on me
Stunned into silence,
I never answered that question
