First Rain

A waved shadow blankets my book bag,
Droplets filtering through the tree's eyes.
Past the swaying of wipers chiming reprise
Sneakers slapping the concrete has me look back.
The life that lifts the tip dives near my shoulder
It was their fluttering eyelashes,
Their curly hair is with bubbles it catches
As we waltzed avoiding puddles it smoldered.
When my name slips through them my ears turn red
Even 451 can't pull this feeling
Inscribed in this moment I keep dreaming.
The birds, cars honking, the wind is left unread
The patter of the knocks from my heart
Ends with that blasted corner up ahead.
