Girl in the city

What if the sun never rose
And this night keeps going on and on
I walk through the streets
Through the shadows and sewers
I hug myself when it gets colder
I keep moving
Passing houses with lights off
I pass those complexes
With big billboards
And I see the smiling faces
With ads of mo:mos and cokes bumper offers
I squint my eyes at the LED
I hug my own shoulders
I keep walking in search of the bus stop
I reach the stand but I don't dare sit
Two guys stand near
I shrink away
It's not fear
It's pure utter doubt
That's planted in every female's mind for the opposite sex
And when the bus comes
I realize I have been holding my breath
I release it but I don't smile
Looking left and right and everywhere
I climb up and sit on the seat labelled as For females
I hear my stomach growl
And my throat seems dried up
I know my stops coming
But I can't remember any reason to go home
Back to the hunger that made me go searching the city
Back to the untidy sheets and empty corners
Back to the loneliness which sucks me deeper
Fear and hunger and loneliness
All I seem to have nowadays
My dreams I guess I lost on my way from the empty interviews to home
My hopes I guess vanished when my heart bled until it soaked my soul
And I ask myself
What if the sun never rose
What if the sun never rose.

They will say not to fall for me I am that girl who writes poetry. -Nandanikarn I write poems to ease some of my fears and some of my pain. I don't usually share them because it's always like nothing I write will ever be worth sharing. Still I guess it's always worth a try. more…
