Pains of Age

A glimmer of youth in the sun,
The days of childish dreams are done.
A way of life has Ben laid down
Like the morning dew upon the ground.
How precious is each moment gone by,
Today we live and tomorrow we die.
Our lives are but a candle; we are a flame.
Days come, days go, all the days just the same.
Yesterday I was but a child caught in a dream.
For my life was never as it did seem.
Today I am a young woman, but it will fade.
Tomorrow will come for me, an old maid.
I will dream as my candle slowly flickers away.
Then times flow by shall forget me someday.
Yet my life, though gone, shall live on.
As though each day were but the break of dawn.
My children’s children, they too will join me.
