The Journey to Freedom

We are born into a world where the days of trouble are common and obvious.
Trouble can present itself in so many forms, but rest assure that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, can solve it!

Now whether it’s chains or shackles, there is no trouble that’s ever too great.
For in Jesus Christ we have the victory and His strength in us is way too strong to break!

Now whether it’s slavery or segregation, these troubles are only a test.
And as people with darker skin, we often ask why, but surely God knows best.

God knew we would be sold into slavery for an amount less than the sea.
And that that same sea would carry us to a land where we would no longer be considered free.

God knew every bruise and scar that each whip would crack and bring.
God even saw every tear in our eyes and could feel each and every sting.

God even saw the segregation and the setbacks we would soon encounter next.
He even knew we wouldn’t be able to vote or even sit where we wanted to yet.

God knew how much we would be overlooked, stepped on, and mistreated.
But He gave one man named, Martin, a dream to reveal how we would soon beat it.

We would beat slavery and segregation now and in the years to come.
For God had already given us the victory and through His eyes we had already won.

God knew it was necessary for all of our pain, setbacks, and tears.
For He knew our struggles would show forth His glory, and it’s only by His grace that we are all still here.

So don’t be sad or depressed even though the pain and wounds from our history runs deep.
But rather accept the journey for love, and remember that through, Jesus Christ, we are always meant to be free
