February 14th

Merdi Bakembo 2003 (Matadi)

It is the day of love
but I'm forbidden to be
with whom my heart beats for
I watch through the window as
tables are set, candles are lit
and red wine filled to the brim
the air smells of red rose
petals and scented candle wax
chocolates are shared between hearts
and happiness is the gift of the day
I listen silently as the
echo of laughs fill my ears
the sound penetrates through
my empty and hollow soul
but to all this
I only wish to
see a glimpse of you
